The current study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of Robinson's strategy (SQ3R) in developing reading comprehension skills of the basic eighth grade students. To achieve this aim, the researcher prepared a list of reading comprehension skills that are appropriate for eighth grade students, a reading comprehension test and a strategy guide to help the teatchers to implement Robinson's strategy. These were validated by a group of specialized arbitrators. The relaibility was calculated using the coefficient of Alpha Cronbach and reached a value (0.77).
The sample of the study was divided into two groups, experimental group that included (27) students who studied reading using Robinson's strategy and controlled group that included (30) students who studied reading in the usual way. After the experiment was completed, the reading comprehension test was applied to both groups.
The results of the study indicated that there was a statistically significant difference between the mean scores of the students in the experimental and control groups in the post
test of the reading comprehension skills in favor to the experimental group. The results of the study also revealed that there was a statistically significant difference between the average of the experimental and control groups in five levels of reading comprehension: literal, deductive, reasoning, critical, and creative also there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups at the explanatory and tasting Levels.
Based on this finding, the researcher recommends that further studies to be done on Robinson's strategy in teaching Arabic language in the texts and literary criticism, and implementation of this strategy in different educational level. She also recommends investigating the effectiveness of the strategy in other variables such as creative and critical
thinking and the attitude towards reading.
