The study aims at identifying the extent of parental verbal violence and its relation to the mental health and self-confidence for the students of 10th and 11th grades in Al-Rustaq,. It also aims at identifying the differences in exposure to parental verbal violence between males and females. In additions, it aims at revealing the significance of the relationship of the parent's age and educational level and the verbal violence addressed to the students of 10th and 11th grades.
The study population is composed of students of the 10th and 11th grades in Al Rustaq in Al-Batinah South Governorate. The sample of the study consists of (422) male and female students from four schools chosen randomly from the study population, and the study concluded the following results: 1. Only (8.3%) of the study sample consisting of 422 students of the 10th and 11th grades are exposed to the verbal violence practiced by their parents towards them, while (91.7%) are not exposed to verbal violence. When comparing males and females, we will find that the males are more exposed to verbal violence than females with a percentage of (9.1%), while in females (7.6%). The percentage of those who are not exposed to verbal violence is (90.9%), while the percentage of females who are not exposed to verbal violence (92.4%). 2. The results showed that the students of the 10th grade are the most exposed to verbal violence than the students of the 11th grade by 9.5%, while the percentage of verbal violence exposed by the students of the 11th grade is only (7,1%), and the percentage of 10th grade students who are not exposed to verbal violence (90,5%), while (92.9%) of the 11th students is not exposed to verbal violence. 3. The results showed that the number of exposed people to verbal violence in the age group (14-16 years) is (21) individuals with a percentage of (8%) of the total sample in this group. While in the age group (17-19), the number of those exposed to verbal violence from parents is (14) individuals with a percentage of (8.9%) of the total sample in this age group. 4. There are no statistically significant differences at the level of significance (a<0.05) in the study sample estimates on the degree of exposure to verbal violence due to the variable of monthly income of the family, the age of the parents and the educational level of the father and mother. 5. There is a statistically significant correlation at the level of significance (a<0.01) between the verbal violence of the parents and the mental health and self-confidence among the 10th and 11th grade students in Al-Rustaq in Al-Batinah South Governorate.
