الملخص الإنجليزي
This study was aimed at designing a group guidance program for prisoners at the Central Prison, Samail, Sultanate of Oman, along with follow-up of its effectiveness in reducing their future anxiety. The sample group for the study comprised of thirty inmates of the Prison out of those who scored the highest on the future anxiety scale used in this study. The inmates were divided randomly into two equal groups of fifteen persons per group - an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group received group guidance while the control group was not provided any treatment. The guidance program was spread over eighteen sessions at the rate of three sessions per week.
A Mann-Whitney U Test had indicated existence of disparities reflected statistically at the level (0.05>a) on the future anxiety grade scale between members of the two groups – the experimental group and the control group-on both the scales: the past test and the follow up, in favor of the experimental group. This was credited to the group guidance program applied in this study. At the conclusion of the two month long study, the results of the study also indicated a downward trend in the future anxiety among the members of the experimental group through follow-up, which implied continuity of effectiveness of the guidance program over a sufficient time period.
