The present study aimed at proposing criteria to develop the Performance
evaluation of faculty members in private colleges in the Sultanate of Oman.
Target participants were teaching staff working in private colleges in the
Sultanate of Oman. The study was conducted based on five criteria including, a)
quality of teaching, b) performing administrative and academic work, c)
seriousness and perseverance at work, d) relationship with colleagues, and e)
research and community services.
Data were collected through a questionnaire filled out by 114 teaching staff
in eight private colleges. To collect the data, a descriptive method was utilized,
Findings of the study showed that participants were in high agreement with the
statements regarding the items in the questionnaire about proposing criteria to
develop the performance evaluation of faculty members in private colleges in the
Sultanate of Oman. The questionnaire findings revealed no statically significant
differences (p≤0.05) among the averages of the sample responses concerning the
proposed criteria. The entire tool was attributed to gender, level of education, and
years of experience. The most important recommendation of the study were
unified central mechanisms at the level of private colleges in evaluating the
performance of faculty members and relying on specific and unified objective
criteria to ensure proper evaluation to be implemented at the departmental level
annually.
