The study aims at clarifying the status that Oman gained in the 19th century through the writings of the European Travellers who visited Oman at that time. In addition, the study shows the impressions of those travelers about the political ,social and economical life in Oman during that period. Another aims is to analyze and objectively criticize the information included in those writings in order to realize the value of those writings as an important information source for the specialists and resesrchers studying the modern history of Oman. Finally, this study aims at enriching the Arabic and the Omani library with foreign writings about Oman which are now resticted to certain groups of researchers. The study is divided into four chapters. The first chapter discusses the motives of the European travelers. The second chapter talks about the European travelers. The third chapter ,write about the political and economical situations in Oman in the 19 century in the European travelers writings. The fourth chapter talks about the socially situations in Oman European in those writings. From this study we find that the majority of those travelers were English travelers and they showed a lot of respect and appreciation to Sayyed Said bin Sultan . The study also revaled the role those travelers played in studying the political, economical and social life in Oman in the 19th century. It also led to discover the importance of the writings of those travelers in filling the gaps in the contemporary local writings.But despite the fact of this importance ,those writings must first be analyzed and objectively criticized because not all of them show reality.
