This study entitled (Regaining the Collective Memory of Tamim Al-Barghouti's Poetry – Cognitive Approach) is seeking to investigate the most significant issue which is Collective Memory of Tamim Al-Barghouti.
Recently, regaining and reproducing collective memory became very important due to existential and cultural threats that our nation faces as a result of wars, death, and instability.
The current study aims to answer the following questions: what are the principles Tamim adopted to recall the Collective Memory? What are the motives of recalling this Collective Memory in particular? What are the cognitive techniques that Tamim used to serve those motives? and how did all of that contribute to the knowledge of Tamim's poeticalness? The researcher used cognitive approach as a research method to answer the research questions and this method will help the researcher to explore the techniques that Tamim has adopted in his poetry. Moreover, this method investigates the cognitive capabilities of the creative poet and the way of his conceptualizing of existence.
This research is divided into: an introduction, four chapters, and a conclusion. The introduction provides a brief information about Maurice Halbwachs' Collective Memory and its relation to Carl Young's collective subconscious, as well as addressing argumentative relations between collective memory, identity, history, and oblivion.
The first chapter addressed Tamim Al-Barghouti, his cultural formation, and his relation to collective memory, as well as identifying the principles Tamim has adopted and finally analyzing the statistics results. The second chapter investigates the motives behind recalling the collective memory and the techniques that Tamim has used to support his motives. The third chapter includes the emotional level that Tamim has used in the structure of his poem when recollecting the collective memory by adapting (Khetatah) theory.At the end, the researcher concludes this study by findings and recommendations.
