This study aimed at identifying the characteristics of students who are being blackmailed, the goals of the blackmailer and the items they use to blackmail the victim In addition, it is targeted to recognize the reaction of the students towards the demands of the blackmailer and its consequences on them. Furthermore, the study discussed how much the students are aware of laws and regulations of blackmailing and the effort done by the school to raise awareness about this problem. The researcher distributed a questionnaire to a sample of 122 students in post education schools in Batinah South Governorate for the academic year 2017/2018. Also the study spotted the light on the role of school social work in hanling this problem by interviewing 14 social workers to identify their role in dealing with this problem, the obstacles they face to come up with suggestions to make it easy. The study focuses on answering 7 main questions: 1. What are the characteristics of students being targeted for blackmail? 2. What are the aims and demands of the blackmailer and the tools they use to do so? 3. What is the reaction of the students towards the demands of the blackmailer? 4. What are the consequences of blackmailing on students? 5. How much are the students aware of laws and regulations of cyber blackmailing? 6. What do schools do to raise awareness about this issue? 7. What is the role of school social workers in dealing with this problem?
To answer these questions, the researchers used the descriptive research method which had helped to discover attitudes and the relation between different variables. The study has come up with significant findings. The most important ones are: Most victims who got blackmailed have social network applications and they got blackmailed via their mobile phones and exactly through Instagram. - The main goals of the blackmailer is monry,sex and revenge. - Cash is on the top of list of blackmailer's demands followed by face to face meeting and then having sex. - Data of the victims and their names are the most common tools used to blackmail. - The first reaction of students being blackmailed is asking help from people whom they trust. - Blackmailing has negative effects on victims (psychological, social, health and academic problems). - The school effort to raise awareness about blackmailing was good
