The significant development in electronics technologies leads to a relevant changes in IT and networks fields. As a result of these changes, new applications and technologies have been introduced. The involvement of the new services and the change of user needs force the telecommunication service providers to adapt these services by either modifying their existing infrastructure or introduce new ones to support them. This is due to the fact that many of these services are extremely bandwidth intensive. This thesis focuses on demands and possibilities of using these new bandwidth intensive applications in various sectors of Oman organizations. It was done by analyzing the collected data concerns with networks and applications from various
Oman organizations. Five different methods were used to collect the required data in order to increase data reliability and availability. These collected data gave a general vision of existing network technologies and applications in end user premises and backbone network infrastructure. Also it gave expectation of near future IT development in these various sectors. Depending on collected data analysis and the international growth in the networks and applications fields a growth forecast of near future services generated and a general assumption of the near future Oman networks predicted. More over, a vision of expected network technologies in various sectors generated and the required time frame. This thesis includes discussion of several constraints hindering these new expected near future Oman networks and applications, and the ways to solve them.
