This study aimed to specify criteria for selection of Al-Hadeith al-shareef that would be included in Islamic books in the second cycle of the Basic Education in Sultanate of Oman. It attempted to answer to the following questions:
1-what are the criteria which should be taken into consideration when we select the holy hadeith to be included and studied in books for the students of 2nd cycle of B.E.?
2-How far were the criteria of content and shape met in 2nd cycle of B.E. books (as shape and content)?
3-How were the holy hadeiths distributed in terms of the topics in different classes?
To answer these questions the analytic qualitative method was used because it was suitable to the questions and aims of the study. So the researcher prepared a list of criteria for selecting the holy hadeith texts. The list was validated by showing them to 12 experts. The selection was confirmed and assured by using the agreement factor between the researcher and another analyst by applying the relevant equation. The agreement rate was 81%. The study results included:
1-Building a list of criteria, which should be applied when we chose the whole hadeith text. They are 15 criteria, distributed on two fields: shape and content
2-The criteria "the level of the holy hadeith" were repeated only once in the 9th class.
3-The criteria of content like "relation between the holy hadeith and its content, the aims of second cycle, mean of sharea, attributes of growth and actual students life" were repeated in most holy hadeith in the second cycle.
4-The al-Eibadat field came at first with high percentage of repetition (38.34%) compared to other fields. The al-Nudhum field came at last with lowest percentage (4.29%).
5-The field of the relationship between Muslim and his God came at first with
percentage of repetition (48.26%). Whereas the relationship between Muslim and the universe field came at last with lowest percentage (3.72%). In the light of these findings, it was recommended the following:
1-Taking into account the criteria which are not available in the second cycle. 2- Taking into account the criteria of shapes specially "the level of holy hadeith. 3-Conducting a further research as suggested by the researcher.
