Media plays a vital role at spreading awareness of different issues confronted by the society. Media uncovers the violations, financial; administrative and authentic corruption of the society to highlight the need to eradicate such abuses.
The role of media in general and journalism in particular has notably increased, especially as the specialized media on crime has grown in the recent years. Such media is focused at analyzing and explaining all types of crimes. The crimes stories are given good space at newspapers as they are the focus of the public.
This thesis is one of the Omani studies -as far as the researcher believes- that discusses the crime media in general through the analysis of the crime news in the local newspapers. The study targets the analysis of the reality of the publication of crime stories in the daily local newspapers in the light of the social and media context in the Sultanate. The study used the method of analysis according to the media survey method.
This thesis resulted on several outcomes, the most important of which are: a decrease in the concern of Oman Newspaper and Al Roya newspaper for publishing the crimes stories. The two above mentioned newspapers focus on the murder crimes without giving any concern to the doers of the crimes. Asians have acquired the highest number of murder cases published at the two newspapers.
The two newspapers focused at publishing photographs of the suspects in the crimes. The results of the study revealed a high rate of personal photos for suspects from foreign nationalities along with the stories during the period of the study, in addition to pictures of Africans and Europeans and Americans suspects.
The newspapers depend on local and global news agencies like (ONA -,. FB - QNA - DPA - Reuters - WAFA) in the news coverage of the crime, in addition to their own resources and the Royal Oman Police.
