The study aimed to find out the motives of the preference for selecting arts subjects from the perspectives of grade 10 students and the vocational guidance specialists in North Batinah Governorate، in the Sultanate of Oman.
To achieve the aims of the study، the researcher used two questionnaires to identify the students and vocational guidance specialists perspectives. The questionnaires were developed after reviewing the literature and related studies. The validity of the designed questionnaires was established by consulting validators to ensure both validity and reliability.
The researcher used the descriptive approach. The sample of the study consisted of (462) students، the number of boys was (235) and the number of girls was (227). The number of vocational guidance counselors was (92)، distributed between (47) males and (45) females.
The results of the study showed that personal motives came in the first place، followed by school education motives، then family motives came third، and in the last place professional motives from students' perspectives. Regarding the vocational guidance specialists perspectives، personal motives came in the first place، followed by motivation and educational in second place، then professional motives، and finally family and social motives.
The results of the study showed that no significant statistical differences in the perspectives of the students due to a variable in the social type and level of income، as well as the absence of significant statistical differences in the perspectives of vocational guidance specialists due to social type variables، academic qualifications، and the years of experience.
