The study aimed to identify the relationship between the academic achievement and the methods of family upbringing among the tenth-grade students in Al Batinah South Governorate in the Sultanate of Oman for the academic year 2017/2018.
The study sample consisted of (550) students, (280) of them were males and (270) were females, from the tenth grade in Al Batinah South Governorate. The study was conducted in four Wilayats: Al Rustaq, Al Awabi, Al Musnah and Barka. To analyze the statistical data, the researcher used the arithmetic mean, the standard deviations, the T. test, the Pearson correlation coefficient (PCC), and the multiple regression analysis.
To achieve the purposes of the study, the researcher used the family upbringing and records of the students' grades as the analysis measure. The study revealed the following conclusions.
First, The method of parental acceptance is the most common method as recognized by the students of the tenth grade in Al Batinah South. Second, There are statistically significant differences at the level of the statistical significance (α≤0.05) among the methods of family upbringing with the 10th grade students in the governorate of Al Batinah South due to the gender variable in all the topics of the study (independence versus restriction - democracy vs. autocracy- overprotection vs. negligence, acceptance vs. rejection).
Third, There is a statistically significant correlation at the level of the statistical significance (α≤0.01) between the two methods of family upbringing (democracy and acceptance) and academic achievement. Fourth, There is no statistically significant correlation at the level of the statistical significance (α≤0.05) between the two methods of family upbringing (independence and overprotection) and academic achievement.
The possibility of predicting the contribution of the methods of family upbringing in the achievement of the tenth grade students in Al Batinah South Governorate. The study proved the possibility that the method of democracy in family upbringing helps in increasing students' academic achievement.
