The current study aimed at investigating the percentages of the including of literary appreciation skills in the questions of literary texts in the books for grade 10, 11 and 12 on in the Islamic sciences institutes students the Sultanate of Oman. The study also aimed at examining differences in the skills included in the questions of literary texts of books in the three grades.
To achieve these aims, an analysis card, derived from the list of literary appreciation skills necessary for students of the institutes of Islamic sciences, and then utilized to analyze all 456 questions in the literary texts in the books of the three grades.
The results of the study found that questions of the literary texts in the three grades were remarkably interesting in the fields of ideas, language and structures, with 46.39% and 35.89% respectively in the books of the three grades, while the fields of imagination, sentiment and musical rhythm 12.91, 3.72% and 1.09% respectively. It was found that most of the literary appreciation skills were included in the questions of the literary texts in the three grades in varying degrees. Three of the 39 skills that were not included in the literary questions were namely on Ideas, imagination and musical rhythm, while the rest of the skills included varying percentages.
By comparing the questions of literary texts in the books of the three grades, it was found that the percentages of inclusion of literary appreciation fields in literary texts were ranked in one row in each of the three grades with (33) Skills in grade 10. (26) in grade 11 and (22) in grade 12.
Accordingly, the study recommended that the balance be included in the skills of literary appreciation in the questions of literary texts and suggested conducting analytical studies of the same questions in the light of creative and critical thinking skills.
