The study has addressed the political and commercial relations between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia from 1922 to 1947 along with the British role in these relations. As the researcher followed the descriptive historical approach and the analytical method in the study, relying on documents, sources and references that is in relation to the political and commercial relations.
The study was divided into preface, three chapters and a conclusion. The preface dealt with the historical relations between the Al-Saud family and the AlSabah family since the early days of the stability of the family of Imam Abdul Rahman bin Faisal bin Turki Al-Saud in Kuwait. The first chapter shed the light on Ikhwan movement and its impact on the relationship between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait as Ikhwan is an important element in shaping the relationship between the two countries. While the second chapter concentrated on the British planning of the borders between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait and the results caused by it. Whereas the third chapter focused on the commercial aspects of the relationship between the two countries where the commercial dispute emerged between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait of which is known as "Musabalah."
The study concluded that the relationship between the Al-Sabah family and the Al-Saud family was an old historical relationship characterized by friendship and brotherhood at the beginning; however, it turned into hostility in long periods. It showed that the Ikhwan movement in Najd was not a new movement but an extension of the old Wahhabi movement. It also revealed that the border dispute between Kuwait and Najd was planned by the British government to achieve its interests in the Arabian Gulf. After the discovery of the large quantities of oil in the neutral area between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, which was a major reason to encourage the two countries to find solutions for the problems between them and led to convene three agreements that organized the relationships between the parties, namely the Friendship and Good-neighborly Agreement, the Commercial Convention and the Extradition of Criminals Agreement in 1942.
