This dissertation aims to shed light on the nature of the social media means nature in the terms of its concept, features and types. It also addresses the penal responsibility provisions, including the crimes that committed though social media in the Omani law. Throughout the study, other issues are touched upon such as the responsibility of the individuals who publish, distribute, incite, accomplice and agree upon committing a crime. In addition, it includes the legal justifications as well as original, subordinated and supplementary punishments. All these mentioned aspects are addressed according to the Omani jurisdiction. Finally, the dissertation is concluded with practical applications of social media crimes in the Omani justice system. Some of the most prominent results derived from this dissertation are as following:
1. The freedoms of speech is ensured within the legal limits as per the basic law, as many social media users do not realize the consequences of the wrong usages of the such means. However, ignorance to the laws and procedures shall not be an excuse.
2. The sultanate has made some tangible efforts in judicial and and executive areas to combat cyber-crimes, particularly social media crimes.
3. The law maker links between cyber-crimes combating laws wich includes social media crimes and other punishing laws applicable in Oman.
4. The law maker stipulates that social media uses must be judged with the subordinated punishments within the cyber-crimes combating law manifested the rough confiscation, closure of the shop or the website or expelling the foreigner from the country.
5. The possibility of punishing the person upon the social media crimes only with fines without imprisonment or with other subordinated punishments.
