The present study aimed to reveal the rates of embedded critical reading skills in activities related to reading texts in "My Beautiful Language", the Arabic curriculum text book, for the ninth grade in the Sultanate of Oman.To achieve this, the researcher prepared a list of (25) sub-skills of critical reading skills that should be included in the activities related to the reading texts of the ninth grade, divided into (7) main skills, namely: discrimination, problem solving, language taste, language balance, writer's bias detection, conclusion, and evaluation.
The study targeted, through analysis, all the comprehension activities, analysis and criticism activities contained in the book of "My Beautiful Language" for the ninth grade. The number of activities targeted were (276) activities. The researcher used an analysis card, that was derived from a list of critical reading skills that must be included in the activities of reading lessons in the book of "My Beautiful Language".
The results of the study revealed about (56.15%) of the activities included critical reading skills mentioned in the study tool, and the results also showed an improvement in the concluding skill compared to the rest of the skills. It showed the highest percentage of (26.44%), followed by problem-solving skill at (13.76%), then discernmenation skill at (5.79%), then the writer's bias detection skill at (3.98%). The skill of language taste was (3.26%), then the evaluation skill by (1.18%), then the skill of balance (1.08%).
In light of the results and their discussion, the study made a number of recommendations, the most important of which are: Firstly, developing the activities of the book "My Beautiful Language" for the ninth grade in order to address the deficiencies in including some critical reading skills that the results of the study clarified. Secondly, diversifying the activities of Arabic language text books in all different grades so that it includes a training on critical reading skills. Thirdly, providing those in-charge of developing the Arabic language curriculum for the ninth grade basic with a list of critical reading skills included in this study in order to be taken into consideration when developing the Arabic language book for this class. Fourth, directing teachers to develop their teaching methods in order to improve critical reading skills, which reflects positively on the students' level of thinking. Fifth recommendation is to direct the attention of specialists, including supervisors and teachers, to the importance of teaching students and training them on critical reading skills.
