This study aims at revealing the layout's characteristics of the Omani Arabic dailies. The analysis will be focused on a sample of the following Omani newspapers: Al Watan, Oman, Al Shabiba, and Alroya.
The study uses the method of qualitative analysis by using several tools such as the shape analysis tool in an attempt to monitor the layout's characteristics. The study also uses the field observation tool and the follow-up of the study sample newspapers to define the mechanism in which the newspapers layout in the current study is conducted in addition, the study will use unstructured interviews with the staff responsible of layout in the newspapers under study.
The study concluded with a set of results, the most important of which are the different characteristics of the layout of the Omani Arabic dailies newspapers in terms of the layout direction, the design of the front page, the basic design elements and the typographic and graphic elements.
The study explored differences between the newspapers under the study in terms of type and weight of paper used the newspaper's space, and the number of its columns. In addition the study concluded that the sample newspapers were deferent in term of the location of their signs and the presence or absence of atrium in the header of the page.
The study revealed the different uses of the sample newspapers in terms of the size and type of the used photos and drawings. Al Shabība and Alroya newspapers, for example, used large and empty photos.
The study also found that there are clear differences in the sizes, shapes and types of letters used in the Omani daily Arabic newspapers. The newspapers include a wide variety of titles in the pages. Al Watan and Oman newspapers cover introductory titles and secondary titles, Furthermore, the study explores that there is a disparity in the width of the titles colums and body based on the published press article, which determines the width of the text letters and the titles.
The study revealed the concentration of the Omani newspapers on the headlines and highlighting them on the front page "Al Shabiba" newspaper for example, diversifies in the way of the title's design and layout, we well as its location on the page, while they are fixed in other newspapers
