This thesis addresses the grown meat in terms of usage and
manufacturing in light of the Higher Objectives of the Sharia by defining the
lab-grown meat and clarifying the motives and risks of its usage and
manufacturing. Then, the thesis discusses the effect of the Higher Objectives
of the Sharia on its judgment as a novel issue of Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence).
The study is specifically concerned with answering the following
questions: How is the lab-grown meat made? What is the effect of lab-grown
meat on preserving essential needs in terms of usage and manufacturing? To
what extent does the lab-grown meat consider the objectives of requirements
and improvement in terms of usage and manufacturing? What is the effect
of the capable person's (according to Sharia) objective on the usage and
manufacturing of the lab-grown meat? How do the rules of Sharia objectives
affect the judgment on lab-grown meat? What is the importance of Fiqh of
Balance in the issue of lab-grown meat in terms of usage and manufacturing?
These questions have been answered using the descriptive and inductive
methodologies.
The study came up with various conclusions; the most important of
which are as follows: Islam encourages scientific advancement, but it has a
long-distant vision for the consequences, outcomes, and potential benefits
and harms. After balancing and weighing the benefits and harms of lab grown meat in terms of manufacturing and usage according to the rules of
benefits that are not restricted by Sharia, we found that manufacturing lab grown meat, at the level of global consumption, implies various risks.
Therefore, it shall stop until the manufacturers provide proof of pure benefit,
achieving a public interest or prevalence of benefits over the harms which
require consideration of the prevailing side.
The study highlighted that the Institutions of Fiqh and scientific research
shall pay the required attention to the topic of lab-grown meat and the extent
to which it could be applied at Islamic and global levels.
