This research aims to link Shari'a and the applied sciences through studying the
legal maxim "Harm Must Be Eliminated", and its contemporary applications in
food and non-food additives in poultry. The research indicates the legal
foundation of the legal maxim "Harm Must Be Eliminated" and identifies the
additives in the poultry and their types to study them through the legal maxim
"Harm Must Be Eliminated". Also, the research identifies the legal impacts of
these additives.
There are four main questions falling under the research problem, including:
What is the legal foundation for the legal maxim "Harm Must Be Eliminated" and
the rules that fall under it? What are the food and non-food additives in poultry?
What are its contemporary applications? And what are its legal impacts and how
to address them?
The researcher followed three approaches in this research namely: the inductive
approach, the deductive approach and the analytical approach.
The research has found that the food and non-food additives in poultry have
positive and negative impacts, some of which harm human beings if prohibited
additions or more than permitted rates are added. This will lead to legal effects
for both individual and traders, production and manufacturing agencies, as well
as control and legal authorities. The legislative flexibility and comprehensiveness

of Islam is obvious in dealing with these impacts in a way that eliminates the
