الملخص الإنجليزي
The present study investigates the counseling needs for students
living on campus and their relationship with other demographical factors at
the University Of The United Arab Emirates. The counseling needs were
identified as psychological, academic and social. The study population
consisted of (5985) students, out of them, a random sample of (611) BA students from various colleges were selected.
The results suggest that students living on campus have academic
counseling needs in the first place, followed by psychological and social
needs. There are no statistically significant differences based on sex,
nationality or college. However, the study showed there are statistically
significant differences regarding the students GPA particularly incase of
academic needs. In addition, there are statistically significant differences
for the academic level variable during the three areas of study. While there are no statistically significant differences for the time variable of residency
on campus concerning psychological and social needs, but the study
indicated statistically significant academic differences at the level of (0.05), the results also suggest a statistically significant relationship among the
counseling needs, which reflects that the three needs are interrelated.
The study has recommend the need to introduce counseling
programs for students with low academic achievement, and to implement a
time management programs, and programs to resolve their problems and
enable them to effectively deal with the various obstacles they encounter.
It is also recommended that students should be involved in choosing
the type programs they prefer and the activities they need whether these
activities are educational or recreational. It also called for the needs for
psychological counselors to be available in the dorm to provide them with
psychological and academic support and help them adapt to the dorm life
and becoming part of it.
