This study aimed to identify the reality of the role of the school in developing the local community of the post-basic education in Sharqiya South governorate in Sultanate of Oman. The study used the descriptive approach. Moreover, it used the questionnaire to collect data and information, which was applied to a sample of 309 parents of post-basic education schools from five cities of Sharqiya South governorate.
The main results of the study are as follows: The reality of the role of the school in the developing the local community in post-basic education in South Sharqia governorate in the Sultanate of Oman came in an average degree in general, as well as in all three aspects of the study. The section of family service and development came in the first place, followed by civil institution services and development as second place and finally the government institutions services and development. The results of the study showed that there were no statistically significant differences at the level of (a≤0.05) in the responses of the study sample according to the gender variable in all areas due to the variable gender, the educational qualification and the number of the students in the school in all sections.
The most important recommendations of study are: To provide the school administration with specialized staff in developing the relationship between the school and the local community, to spread the culture of social partnership between the school, local institutions and members of society. Moreover, the school should open its facilities to the members of local community and invest these facilities in developing their skills and knowledge. Finally, they should establish an educational association in each governorate, which includes teachers, decision-makers in the educational process and representatives from government and local institutions and studies and research centers. Parents and members of the community should participate in this association and investing the school resources and the potential of the human and material community to provide services and activities that contribute in developing the local community.
