The study aimed to identify the training needs of the vocational guidance specialists in schools in post-basic education in the Sultanate of Oman, and to identify if there were significant statistical differences between the responses of the members to the sample of the training needs of vocational guidance specialists due to the variables of the Educational region, Category, Qualification and Experience.
To achieve the objectives of this study, the researcher analyzed the theoretical literature on vocational guidance in general that is connected to the training needs (professional guidance) for vocational guidance specialist in particular. Besides, he and the prepared a questionnaire to identify the training needs of vocational guidance specialist in schools in post-basic education in the Sultanate of Oman. This questionnaire is made up of these (45) items.
The validity and reliability of these items have been confirmed. The study field included all schools in post-basic education in the Sultanate of Oman. The number of these schools was (50) while the number of of vocational guidance specialists in schools (99) (male and female). The sample was selected from three regions; Muscat, and Batinah south, and Batinah north. The total number of respondents was (58) including (34) males, and (24) females.
The statistical processing of data was done by using frequencies, averages, standard deviations, grade, and test (v), and analysis of variance (One - Way - ANONA). The main findings of the field study are:
1 - The study has found that all areas of the training needs of vocational guidance specialists in the schools of post-basic education in the Sultanate of Oman were urgent needs for specialists as it ranging between great need and the medium one.
2 - The result of the study has showed that there weren't any statistical significal differences among the responses of the sample to the training needs of vocational specialists due to the variables (Educational region, Category, Qualification and Experience).
3 - The study has also visualized a proposal of a training program for the vocational guidance specialists based on the results of the study.
The visualization included (45) expressions as an urgent need for the specialists.
The study has also made several recommendations including the following:
1.A call for the adoption of the training program proposed by the researcher in training programs for vocational guidance specialists in schools in post-basic education.
2. Review of the training programs that are given to vocational guidance specialists under the Educational Reform in post-basic education and the importance to take into consideration the need to take into account those responsible for specialist training to the needs of the vocational guidance by the people who are responsible for the in the training while planning and implementing the training course.
3. Promote a system of internal and external missions to encourage vocational guidance specialists to complete their post-graduate studies, and to learn from the experiences of developed countries in the field of vocational guidance.
