الملخص الإنجليزي
This study aimed at exploring the emotional intelligence skills for school principals in the Sultanate of Oman, and exploring the differences in the emotional intelligence in relationship with some demographic variables including Gender (male/female), Region (Muscat, Batinah North) Experience and Type of School. The sample of the study consisted of 130 school : principals from Muscat and Batinah North regions.
(Goleman, 1998) Emotional Intelligence Scale was administrated to the subjects of the study. Acceptable reliability coefficients were obtained for this scale. Means and standard deviations were calculated for each subscale of the main scale (Self awareness, Self management, social awareness, relationship management).
To explore the differences related to gender and region (to answer the second and third research questions), means and standard deviations were calculated, then the t-test was employed. The results indicated that there were statistical significance differences, in the self management subscale in favor of males group, and in the relationship management subscale in favor of females group. Also, the results indicated that there weren't any statistical differences in all subscales of emotional intelligence in relation to region variable.
To explore the differences related to years of experience and type of school, means and standard deviations were calculated and one-way ANOVA was employed. Results showed that there were statistical differences related to years of experience between short-experience and long experience principals in social skills subscale in favor of long experience group. As for the type of school variable results showed significance differences between cycle one and cycle two in favor of the cycle one principals, in three subscales (self awareness, self management and social awareness).
Finally, the interpretation of the results has been made in the light of the theoretical frame and previous studies. Also, a number of recommendations and suggestions have been made.
