This study aimed to know the level of Parental treatment styles perceived by Nizwa university first-year students, demonstrate differences in the attitudes of Nizwa university students towards Parental treatment styles used in their families depending on the variables of gender (male, female), specialties (literary, scientific) and the interaction
between them.
The study sample consisted of (470) students, and to achieve the objectives of the study, a measure of parental treatment styles was used, and was sure of its validity and reliability. Results of the study showed that the method of correct treatment ranked first in the dimensions of the methods of treatment used by both Fathers and mothers, followed by the method of hesitancy, followed by the method of control, followed by the method of differentiation, and followed by the method of hyper protection. There are statistically significant differences due to the variable of gender in Parental treatment styles used by both fathers and mothers in favor of females in both of the dimensions of of correct
treatment, hesitancy, control, differentiation, and the total degree of the scale, but there were not any statistically significant differences between males and females in the dimension of hyper protection. and there were no statistically significant differences in the parental treatment styles due to specialty or the interaction between gender and specialty. In light of the results reached in this study was to formulate recommendations and most importantly is providing counseling advice and guidance on the methods of proper treatment for the children, and conducting surveys of the factors affecting the selection of specialty in the university, and studying the relationship between parental treatment styles and attitudes towards the study among a sample of university students.
