The current study aimed to identify the obstacles to organizational development at Sultan Qaboos University in the Sultanate of Oman, and to reveal the existence of differences in the obstacles to organizational development that affect the performance of faculty members at Sultan Qaboos University, which are attributed to the variables (gender, college type, educational qualification, years of experience), and to determine Suggestions and recommendations that help to overcome obstacles to organizational development from the point of view of the faculty members at Sultan Qaboos University.
To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher followed the descriptive approach, and the study sample consisted of (126) members of the faculty at Sultan Qaboos University. The data was collected through a questionnaire consisting of (77) phrases distributed over five dimensions: (obstacles related to the administrative aspect), (obstacles related to human resources), (obstacles related to the technical aspect), (obstacles related to work groups) and (obstacles related to communication and participation in decision-making). The validity and reliability of the questionnaire were verified.
The results showed that there are obstacles in the process of organizational development at Sultan Qaboos University from the point of view of the university?s faculty members. The obstacles came from the highest to the lowest as follows: Obstacles related to human resources, followed by obstacles related to the administrative aspect, then obstacles related to work groups, followed by obstacles related to communication and participation in Decision-making and finally, obstacles related to the technical aspect. The results also showed that there are no differences in the obstacles to organizational development that affect the performance of faculty members at Sultan Qaboos University, which are attributed to the variables (gender, college type, educational qualification, years of experience). The study presented a set of recommendations to overcome the obstacles to organizational development at Sultan Qaboos University, and suggested a set of future studies related to the topic of the current study.
