الملخص الإنجليزي
The agricultural character dominated many areas of the Sultanate of
Oman, Communities in Oman utilized several means to provide water
needed to irrigate crops. One of these means was Al-zajira, which is a
traditional irrigation method that relies on animal power. It is used to
extract water from wells using a bucket hanging from a rope.
This method has spread in many agricultural areas in the Sultanate of
Oman. Communities in Oman have used various types of tools to provide
the various components of Al-Zajira. Al-Zajira has affected the economic
and social life of members of these communities who used it. It has
contributed to increasing agricultural production, and to increasing
cohesion among members of the same community.
This study was limited to the Wilayat of Suwaiq, located in the North
Al Batinah Governorate, as a case study of Al-Zajira in the Sultanate of
Oman. To achieve the main objective of the study, which is to document
Al-Zajira and all its associated tools and architectural components, it
relied on the descriptive analytical approach, in addition to a number of
field visits and interviews.
This study came in six chapters, the first chapter dealt with the
general introduction to the study. إلhe second chapter reviewed previous
studies, while the third chapter shed light on Al-Zajira method in the
Sultanate of Oman. The fourth chapter was devoted to a talk about the role
of Al-Zajira in the Omani society in the Wilayat of Suwaiq, and the sixth
chapter presented the general results of the study and its
recommendations.
One of the most important results of this study is that Al-Zajira
method is an ancient irrigation method that has become extinct in the study
area; due to the emergence of modern, easier irrigation methods, and the
tendency of most people to occupy other jobs in big cities. However, due
to the strong attachment of some people to Al-Zajira, it was modified to
transform into a popular musical art; to be able to exercise it in their free
time.
