The present study aimed to reveal the level of availability of reflective
thinking skills in the activities of reading lessons in the two Arabic language books for
grades 7 and 8 in Oman. This is done through answering the following questions:
- What is the percentage of embedded reading activities for reflective thinking skills in my
Arabic language book "My Beautiful Language" for the seventh and eighth grades in the
Sultanate of Oman?
- What is the level of availability of reflective thinking skills in the activities of reading
lessons for the two semesters of the seventh grade?
- What is the level of availability of reflective thinking skills in the activities of reading
lessons for the two semesters of the eighth grade?
- Does the level of availability of reflective thinking skills in the activities of reading
lessons for the seventh and eighth grades differ according to the grade?
To answer the study questions, the researcher used the descriptive approach
through the content analysis card. It included a list of the reflective thinking skills that
should be available in the activities of the reading lessons and in the light of the card, all the
975 activities of the two classes were analyzed. The researcher found that the availability of
reflective thinking skills was in varying proportions in the activities of reading lessons for
the seventh and eighth grades. The results also showed that there is a difference in the
degree of availability of reflective thinking skills according to the different grades as the
skill of reaching conclusions reached the highest percentage in the seventh and eighth
grades, respectively, 34%, 44%. In light of the previous results, the researcher recommended that it is necessary to
increase the number of activities included in the reading lessons that develop reflective
thinking skills. The researcher also provided a number of suggestions for further research.
