Student engagement is considered the most important issue that must be taken seriously,
especially in online learning. Hence, student engagement contributes intensively to
enhancing students' motivation, reducing social isolation, dropping out of courses, and
studying withdrawal. This research aimed to discover the student's perception of the role
of Moodle as an E-learning platform in enhancing student engagement in learning in the
College of Education (COE) at SQU. This research also investigated whether students'
perceptions statistically differed due to their specialization and gender. Furthermore, this
research explored the main challenges students faced in Moodle that hindered their
engagement and the students' suggestion to enhance their engagement in Moodle. In
addition, it was essential to identify teachers' perceptions about utilizing Moodle in
teaching as they could play a crucial role in encouraging their students to engage with
Moodle. Besides, it investigated teachers' perception of the role of Moodle in enhancing
student engagement as they had an experience with Moodle, especially during Covid-19.
This research followed a descriptive method and used two questionnaires for students and
teachers. The students' questionnaire included closed questions to collect quantitative data
and two open questions to collect qualitative data. The students' sample was (n=338),
which was selected using stratified random sampling, and the teachers' sample was (n=
54) teachers from different COE departments, which was selected using simple random
sampling. This research found that both students and teachers had a positive perception of
the role of Moodle in enhancing student engagement in learning. In addition, it revealed a
statistically significant difference in students' perception of the role of Moodle in
improving student engagement in terms of specialization and no difference in gender.
According to the study's findings, the speed of the Internet and lack of communication
were the main challenges students faced in Moodle. The study suggested that teacher student and student-student communication are required to improve students' engagement
in Moodle. In addition, improving Internet speed is crucial to provide incredible
opportunities for streamlining information and communication sharing and enhancing
online learning and teaching quality. This research is significant as it handled the critical
issue of engagement and the E-learning Platform (Moodle), a world concern due to the
covid-19 pandemic. It is hoped that this research could contribute to the improvement of
utilizing Moodle platform features to increase student engagement in the learning process.
