The Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST) is one of the most
common assessments to assess executive dysfunction. The present
study aimed meta-analysis the reliability coefficients of WCST scores to
find out the Typical Estimate reliability coefficient of WCST scores, and
to reveal the various factors that may contribute to the high or low value
of the reliability coefficient. The present study community includes all
studies in the period between (1993-2021) that used WCST versions,
and this research resulted in (4657) studies, including (36) studies that
were subjected to meta-analysis for reliability by the Convenience
Sampling method. The number of reliability coefficients for all test indices
were (206) reliability coefficient from (16) WCST indices. The present
study focused on the meta-analysis on (98) reliability coefficient
calculated by test-retest reliability method for six indexes from the WCST
that which: Total Error, perseverative responses, perseverative errors,
non-perseverative response, completed categories, failure to maintain a
set; due to the lack number of reliability coefficients calculated by other
methods of reliability and the lack number of reliability coefficients of other
test indices which may impair the statistical power of the analysis.
The results of the present study showed that the test-retest
reliability coefficients of the WCST generally ranged between (r=0.3-0.7),
and the results of the correlation coefficients between the test-retest
reliability coefficients for the scores of the WCST and the independent
variables showed that there were no statistically significant differences at
a level less than (0.05) that attributed to the independent variables, but
it is noted that the sample nature was contributed high range in the test retest reliability coefficients for the indicator scores of failure to maintain
a set, and to a moderate range in the test-retest reliability coefficients
for indices scores of total error, perseverative responses, perseverative
errors, and completed categories .
The study concluded that the WCST needs to be used with other
tests for research purposes or in the diagnostic process to detect
executive dysfunction. The study revealed that the reliability coefficients
of the scores of the perseverative response indicator is the most stable
in the manner of stability test-retest compared to other indices, and in
general the WCST scores should be used to with caution while using the
test for diagnostic and research purposes.
