الملخص الإنجليزي
This study aims to identify the manifestations of alienation
and estrangement in the experience of the Saudi novelist Muhammad Hassan
Alwan, by answering the following questions:
1.What are the linguistic and idiomatic meanings of alienation and estrangement?
2.What is the effect of temporal alienation on the lives of fictional characters?
3. How did spatial alienation appear in Alwan’s narrative experience?
4.What reconstructive attempts did the fictional characters rely on to reduce the severity
of their alienation and estrangement?
To answer these questions, the researcher studies Alwan’s experience represented
by the novel (The Ceiling of Sufficiency - Sophia - The Ring of Purity - The Beaver) in
an in-depth reading, after which the researcher identifies the most prominent features of
alienation and estrangement. The researcher then divides the study into chapters to cover
all the manifestations related to the subject of the research.
The most prominent findings of the study are the following:
1.The phenomenon of alienation and estrangement in Alwan’s experience expanded to
include all the narrative elements (such as time, place, and dialogue), which helped
deepen their impact on the lives of the narrative characters.
2.The manifestations of alienation and estrangement varied in the lives of the fictional
characters, appearing in states of silence, wandering, attachment to sexuality, travel,
and attempts to withdraw from reality.
3. The characters sought to reduce the impact of alienation and
estrangement through various restorative measures that raised their sense of self
amid the challenges of life that surrounded them.
