The purpose of this study is to discover the availability of sexual education concepts in
Islamic Education textbooks in the Sultanate of Oman for grades (10-12) in light of growth
demands, by answering the following questions:
1. What are the concepts of sexual education included in Islamic Education textbooks for
grades (10-12) in light of growth demand?
2. How do sexual education concepts distributed among Islamic Education textbooks for
grades (10-12)?
To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher conducted the analytical descriptive
methodology, and prepared a list of sexual education concepts in light of growth demands
consisting of (30) concepts. Validity and reliability have been achieved by presenting the list to
(26) arbitrators, then the list was converted to an analysis card, and the stability coefficient was
(0.88). The results of the study indicated the following:
- The field of (sexual contact) came in first place with (379) repetitions.
- The concept of (marriage) received the highest repetition of all sexual concepts with a
rate of (85.7%).
- The inclusion of sexual education concepts in the content of Islamic Education textbooks
in the three grades is progressive.
- There is a discrepancy in including the concepts of each field in textbooks of the three
grades.
In the light of the findings of the study, it recommended that the concepts of sexual
education should be balanced and gradually incorporated into Islamic Education textbooks in
accordance with the demands of growth of this stage. It also recommended that the role of Islamic
Education curriculum should be strengthened and linked to the latest, contemporary and
extraneous sexual problems, particularly homosexuality. The study also urged future analytical
studies on the availability of sex education concepts in the light of growth demands for the cycle
two grades (5-9) and these studies should be conducted to identify students' opinions on the
importance of including sexual education concepts in Islamic Education textbooks and their impact
in dealing with such problems.
