The study explores the role of digital security media in local crises awareness strategies in the Arab world, examining how Arab media elites—both academics and professionals—rely on AI tools and mechanisms in content preparation and audience engagement. These efforts aim to guide public responses to crises and promote societal peace amid challenges that could hinder development plans.
The study was conducted through semi-structured interviews with 18 media elites from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and the UAE. The findings show that the media elite’s interest in following security media content on Arab digital platforms stems from the pivotal role these institutions play in raising awareness about the nature of local crises and security challenges facing societies. Furthermore, these platforms enhance public trust in state institutions by showcasing efforts to manage crises and protect citizens.
The study also revealed that successful AI application use must rely on comprehensive and accurate local data, including security, political, economic, and social information. This would enable AI tools to conduct deep analyses and provide precise predictions regarding crisis developments. Additionally, AI platforms can enhance contextual and behavioral analysis by leveraging machine learning and behavioral modeling techniques to understand audience reactions and preferences toward security content. Recommendations include providing specialized training programs to develop the skills of security media professionals in using AI tools and technologies.
