The aim of the current study is to measure the level of psychological capital and
psychological alienation among mothers of children with autism spectrum
disorder. In addition, it aims to examine the predictive capacity of psychological
capital on psychological alienation. The study applied a descriptive predictive
methodology and the sample consisted of 432 mothers of children with autism
spectrum disorder, who were accessed using the convenience sampling method.
The psychological capital scale and the psychological alienation scale were used
after verifying their psychometric properties. The study found several results,
including the low level of psychological capital among mothers of children with
autism spectrum disorder and a moderate level of psychological alienation with
high level of feeling powerlessness and social isolation. The results showed no
differences due to the child’s gender and educational level in the psychological
capital scale, with differences in favor of mothers who receive support, mothers
with 1-5 years of experiences, and those with 3-4 children. The study also found
no differences in the level of psychological alienation due to years of experience
in caring for the child and the number of children, and differences in the level
of psychological alienation in favor of mothers who didn’t receive support. In
addition, the results of the study found that psychological alienation could be
predicted through the psychological capital ;thereby, the level of psychological
alienation was explained by 18.3% of the variance in psychological capital.. The
study offers a set of recommendations and suggestions in light of its findings.
