The study aimed to identify psychological stress and its relationship to psychological
resilience among a sample of pregnant women in Muscat Governorate. It also
investigated any differences in psychological stress and psychological resilience
according to the variables of educational qualification, pregnancy order, age, and
economic level. A sample of 381 pregnant women was selected based on the
convenience sampling method. To assess stress, a pregnancy experience scale was
used, and a psychological resilience scale was implemented to determine the level
of resilience. The validity, and reliability, of scales were confirmed.
The results showed that the level of psychological stress among pregnant women is
average on the total score of the scale and high on the total score of the psychological
resilience scale. In addition, there were no statistically significant differences for the
psychological stress scale in the light of the educational qualification variable, age,
and economic level, while there was a statistically significant difference in the light of
the pregnancy order variable. Statistically significant differences were also found for
the resilience scale due to the educational qualification, age, and pregnancy order,
but no differences in the economic level
In addition, the results found that psychological resilience could be predicted through
psychological stress. Psychological resilience explained 1.5% of the variation in
stress levels of pregnant women.
