The current paper presents an analytical research on citizenship in Gulf
Cooperation Council countries- GCC. The study explores the challenges
that citizenship might face and how to improve its role in sustaining conduct
of new generations. A qualitative approach was implemented for data col lection and analysis. Interviews were conducted with parliaments, university
students and lecturers from the six GCC countries. The study found out that
citizens at GCC countries perceive citizenship important but influenced by
many internal and external factors that impact rights, obligations and values.
Participants maintained that citizens' perception of citizenship requires sup-

port and interference from GCC governments and all civic institutions in order
to make citizenship active, true and productive. Participants also think that
a holistic citizenship encompassing all GCC countries can be established
at the same time that a state citizenship is recognized and promoted. The
study came out with a group of recommendations for sustaining citizenship.
The study also highlighted a number of potential areas for future research.
