This study aims to identify the evident features of family disputes found in the Omani family by examining dispute cases filed to Muscat First Instance Court, to determine their social characteristics, key implications and the most significant reasons causing such family disputes and to know the view of the disputing parties on the role of social worker in courts.
The study includes a number of theoretical chapters that represent the theoretical framework of the study; theoretical orientations - previous studies - social transformations and changes aspects in the Omani family - family disputes "causes and effects". The study adopted the method of taking sample of the social survey and the researcher used questionnaire, case study format and comparison guide as tools to collect and analyze data and then determine recurrences and percentages, as well as analysis of ANOVA and "T" test.
The study included a sample of the disputing parties in Muscat First Instance Court, where the total number is (100) of males and females who filed their cases during 2008, and those represent the study group.
The study arrived at a number of results including: - 1- The findings confirmed that most conflicting parties were married by personal choice and their marriage lasted for more than five years, although disputes between them occurred since the beginning of the marriage. Moreover, the findings also confirmed the negative role of the family intervention to solve the conflict between the married couples. 2- The findings confirmed that there are a variety of reasons that lead to family conflicts, notably ill-treatment and companionship, living costs issues and the influence of modern technologies on the family. 3- The findings revealed the main implications of family disputes. 4. The results confirmed the contrasting opinions on the assessment of the role of social worker in solving family disputes and his/her ability to be knowledgeable of all aspects of the conflict and assist the parties in reaching a solution to the problem.
In light of these findings, the study suggests a number of proposals that focus on the ways to deal with family conflicts, and activating the role of the social worker in dealing with issues related to personal law.
