The purpose of the study was to develop a Scale that can measure Vocational Interests among (5-10) graders in the Sultanate of Oman. The sample consisted of 832 students (374 male and 458 female); randomly selected from the Muscat regions South of Batinah and Dhofar, who were enrolled for the academic year 2013/2014. The Scale consisted of 48 pictorial items jobs representing the eight vocational interests. The psychometric properties and measures were also established for the Scale.
The validity of the inventory was verified by using three methods: Face validity, concurrent validity and factorial validity. The results indicated acceptable validity. The reliability of the Scale was verified by using Cronbach's Alpha and test-retest reliability. Cronbach's Alpha was found between 0.83-0.87, and the testretest reliability was found 0.85.
The MANOVA results revealed a statistically significant difference between males and females (p<0.05) in four Vocational Interests. Accordingly, norms for the sample of the study in the four interests were derived by using percentile ranks. A set of recommendations and suggestion on the subject is listed.
