This study aims to examine the nature of the Omani - Ottoman relations , whether cordial or strained , in the political, economical and military fields during the proposed period of study (1744-1856).
The study is divided into four chapters The first one focuses on the political and economical conditions of both states and their : impact on the actual relationship between the two states. The second & third chapters focus on the relations of Oman with the Ottoman states of Egypt , Basra and Hejaz in the commercial, military and political fields. The fourth chapter focuses on some cultural features of Oman and the Ottoman states in certain aspects such as public baths, harem life in the royal palaces, and types of currency used in both states and official titles as well . The conclusion of this study can be summarised as follows:
1- The internal affairs and the external problems of both Oman and the Ottoman state had influenced the actual relations which prevailed between them.
2- Oman used to have some friendly political and military relations with some Ottoman states which served as a link connecting Oman with the central authority in the capital of the Ottoman state. These relations , however had become unfriendly with the same states sometimes especially when the state of Basra stopped paying the honorarium that had been started since the reign of Imam Ahmed bin Said .
3- Oman had some active commercial relations with the Ottoman states which enhanced trading activity & led to economic prosperity. 4-The commercial exchange had led to mutual exchange of some cultural effects between the two states which were reflected in certain comparative elements of civilization .
