The study tackles the phenomenon of cultural alienation in view of the present global changes. It aims to determine the prevalence of different levels of cultural alienation among the Omani people within the rapid current changes in the society. The study explores the relationship between the four levels of the cultural alienation (Meaninglessness, Normlessness, Social Isolation, unbelonging). It also studies the demographic characteristics of the personality, economic and social situations, the tendency to adopt new consumer culture, interaction patterns with modern communication technologies and the extent of exposure to them, and the impact of these factors on personality in order to come up with specific suggestions to address the cultural alienation at both individual and societal levels in Oman. The researcher depended on the descriptive analysis method. She applied the sample-survey-method, and quantitative data analysis. Through the application of statistical analysis methods and thorough examination of the dimensions of the phenomenon, the researcher used individual and group interviews to attain more solid information so they can help in explaining the outcomes of the study. The researcher came up with a number of general conclusions and the most important ones are: First, there is a noticeable prevalence of cultural alienation with its four levels. Second, in light of the effects of globalization, the researcher found that the loss of the cultural meaning is the most influential dimension in the alienation of the Omani individuals. Then, the loss of social criteria occupied the second place, the social isolation occupied the third, and unbelonging came in the fourth place. The study further found that there are statistical differences between a number of variables (age, marital status, occupational status, level of education, migration, travel, tourism, and the monthly income of the family and the personal income of the subject) and the status of cultural alienation,
The study found that there are statistical differences between the patterns of interaction with the modern communication technologies, new consumption cultures, and the extent of exposure to the mass media, and the widespread of the cultural alienation phenomenon. The study also showed that there is no statistical connection between the type, and place of residence, and the cultural alienation. The study provided a set of recommendations that could help in combating cultural alienation and increasing the level of social belonging.
