This study aims to measure the level of critical reading skills necessary for grade ten. It also reveals the relationship between students level in these skills and some variables like: gender and their level of achievement in the Arabic subject. The study sample consisted of (280 males and females). To achieve the study aims, the researcher used two tools: a list of critical reading skills which included 24 skills within three areas: (distinguishing- inference-evaluation). In addition, an achievement test which measures critical reading skills was used. The study reached the following results:
1- a list of critical reading skills appropriate for tenth grade students, which consist of (24) skills in three areas: (distinguishing - inference evalua 2- The level of grade 10 students proficiency critical reading skills was weak. The general mean was (48.60%). 3- There are significant differences between the mean scores of students in critical reading test due to the gender, in favor of females. 4- There are significant differences between the mean scores of students in critical reading test due to the achievement level of Arabic language subject in favor of higher level (excellent). In view of the findings of the study, the researcher presented the process a number ofrecommendations and suggestions that aim to develop the education field and the development of the educational learning.
