The Extent of Water Education Concepts Inclusion in Social Studies Textbooks for Grades (5–10 )of Basic Education in the Sultanate of Oman .The study aimed at identifying the extent of water education concepts inclusion in social studies textbooks for grades (5-10) of Basic. Education in the Sultanate of Oman. For the purpose of the study, the researcher developed a list of (170) essential water education concepts which distributed into(13) domains. Textbook analysis was done to eleven social studies textbooks from grades(5-10).
The results showed differences percentage of inclusion as follows: water surface domain was highly included with a percentage of(57.3%); Water cycle(9%); precipitation( 7.8%); Water usage(6.2%); water problems reduction actions with(3.9%); Water problems domain (3.6%); The forms of underground water(2.1%); water system(1.2%), while the domains of drainage system and water security have the percentages of(0.7%) and(0.2%) respectively. The results also showed a disparity in inclusion of water education concepts cross social studies textbooks. Grade 8 textbook
came first with an inclusion: percentage of (28%), while Grade 5 textbook was second by (20%). The inclusion percentages for Grades 6 and 10 were closer, they were (19%) and (17%) respectively. In Grade 9 textbook, it was (10%) and declined to only 6% for Grade 7. The study recommended that it is important to devote more space for the inclusion of water education concepts in social studies textbooks and to be embodied in a gradual balanced educational way that takes into account the educational grade ( the higher the grade the more concepts to be included). It also recommended that the domain of "action to reduce water problems" and water security" need be given grater inclusion as it is important to heighten water awareness and create a generation of students who are capable of dealing with water resources and its related problems wisely.
