The study aimed to investigate the reality of intellectual property management at the University of Sultan Qaboos. It aimed to provide a proposal to improve intellectual property management at the University of Sultan Qaboos . To achieve the objectives of the study, the study followed the descriptive approach by analyzing the literature about the management of intellectual property. The study used a content analysis based an 40 items. The form was tested for its validity and reliability. The form consisted of four aspects: (1) the goals of intellectual property management in the selected universities, (2) administrative procedures in the intellectual property management, (3) the administrative and technical management of the intellectual property, and (4) the size of intellectual property in the selected universities . The study sample consisted of 5 selected universities: Sultan Qaboos University, University Oxford in the United Kingdom , Stanford University in the United States, University of Adelaide in Australia, Kyoto University in Japan and King Saud University in Saudi Arabia. The sample was purposefully chosen .The documents related to the management of intellectual property in the selected universities were analyzed based on an in-depth analysis and frequent reading The researcher was committed to accuracy and objectivity in the extraction of information, The main results of the study showed are that the management of intellectual property in Sultan Qaboos University is characterized by encouraging creativity and innovation, seeking cooperation with the sectors in economic and scientific institutions at the local and international level, supporting researchers, disseminating scientific production, paying the expenses of licensing, registering patents, ensuring the rights of the researchers, and protecting the scientific production. There is a need to intensify the efforts in disseminating the culture of intellectual property, work on the transfer of technology from the university to the community, and promote the access to self-sufficiency in financing research projects. The university needs to develop a comprehensive plan to invest in intellectual capital, achieve compatibility between the requirements of economic sectors and the inventions, renew the intellectual property policies, and work to attract distinguished professors, expand the administrative staff and technical support to include experts in intellectual property law, marketing, and specialized departments in inventions, trademarks, industrial designs, databases and training and quality. It needs to increase the number of research and patents and contracts for international cooperation and establish start-up companies. In light of the results of the study, the researcher presents an administrative proposal for the development of intellectual property management at Sultan Qaboos University .Finally, the study suggests some future studies in the topic.
