Writings on "kings' advice" fall within the area of the Islamic heritage of political thought. The terms "kings' advice" refers to those compositions written to advise the ruler whether at his request or voluntarily by the author. They included a wide range of tips on all aspects of the king being advised, whether major public affairs such as steering the affairs of the Kingdom or personal such as eating or sleeping habits.
The problem of this study relies on approaching this type of writings from a literary angle after they have been addressed from intellectual and cultural aspects. Therefore, it seeks to achieve the following objectives:
1. Knowing the contents of the writings on kings' advice.
2. Tracing their most dominant stylistic characteristics.
3. Determining their literary genres.
Accordingly, this study consists of the following chapters: a theoretical "Introduction" on "kings' advice" and three chapters, which are respectively: "Contents", "Writing Styles" and "Genres". Then the conclusion mentions the most prominent results and prospects of research.
This study relies on a textual descriptive approach of chosen models of writings on "kings' advice" to clarify their contents and styles and determine their genre through comparing them to similar writings and genres, i.e. "rhetoric", "literary messages" and "moral commandments".
