This study investigated the impact of PBL on Omani EFL grade 11 students' speaking performance and investigated the participants' opinions towards being taught through PBL in their speaking classes of the English subject. Two intact science-stream classes, randomly assigned as experimental and control groups, from a public school in Al Batinah North Governorate, Oman - Ghassan Bin Abdullah Al Kharousi- took part in the study. The participants were 46, 23 in the experimental group class and 23 in the control group class. The data were obtained through a speaking proficiency test, a speaking assessment form, and a post-experimental online survey. The PBL intervention lasted for 8 weeks, one session per week with a duration of 1 hour and 30 minutes which is a total timing of two school periods. The researcher converted some of grade 11 English
textbooks' tasks into PBL scenarios. The obtained data were analyzed through SPSS using independent-samples t-tests, paired-samples t-tests, and one-way multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) tests.
The findings showed that there were significant differences between the scores of the experimental group and the control group in favor the PBL group who also had positive opinions towards PBL and higher motivation towards learning English.
