The study seeks to identify the relationship between the professional future anxiety and the professional self-efficacy and the level of professional ambition among the students of the General Education Diploma in South al Batinah Governorate in Oman based on the gender variables and study subjects. The study applied the descriptive approach. In order to achieve the objectives of the study, three scales were applied: the Professional Future Anxiety Scale, the Professional Self-Efficacy Scale, and the Professional Ambition Level Scale on a sample of 488 male and female students. The results of the study indicate that the level of professional future anxiety and the level of professional self-efficacy among students of general education diploma in South al Batinah governorate achieved an average score, while the level of professional ambition was high among the study sample.
The results concluded that there were statistically significant differences in the level of anxiety in the future of the general education diploma students due to the gender variable in all dimensions of the scale except the dimension of anxiety towards self-employment. The statistical differences were in favor of males. The results indicated that there were no statistically significant differences in the level of professional future anxiety of the general education diploma students according to the variable of academic subjects in both dimensions of professional future anxiety, and the concern towards self-employment. On the other hand, there are noticeable differences in the two dimensions, anxiety towards the study and specialization, and family and social anxiety. The statistical differences were in favor of the sample of students studying applied mathematics. Moreover, the results indicated that there is a statistically negative correlative correlation between the professional future anxiety and the professional self-efficacy. In addition, there is a statistically negative correlative correlation between the professional future anxiety and the level of professional ambition among students of the General Education Diploma in South al Batinah Governorate.
The study recommended the implementation of awareness programs aimed at encouraging students to avoid worrying about the professional future, and pay more attention to activating the role of professional guidance specialist through the provision of individual and group counseling services for the students to reduce the anxiety of the future professional.
