This study investigates the practice of independent reading level and its effect towards religious awareness (Islam, Iman, and Ihsan) among post-primary education students (11/12) in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman. This study aims to describe students' demographic differences at independent reading according to gender and grade. The problem of study based on the numerous complaints on low students' interests of independent reading that brought serious concerns among Oman community. This study used the descriptive and correlation method. The researcher used the random stratified sample which the sample size was (n=750). This study distributed two questionnaires designed by the researcher himself: The first questionnaire for measuring the practice of independent reading level which consisted of (20) sub constructs. Yet, the second questionnaire for evaluating the level of religious awareness which consisted of (18) sub constructs based on three themes. The result showed that the practice of independent reading level among post-primary education students (11/12) in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman was in average. The findings also showed that there are no significant differences at independent reading level according to gender and grade. However, the result showed that there was statistically significant relationship between independent reading level and the three levels of religious awareness (Islam, Iman, and Ihsan). As a conlusion, the researcher recommends the importance of independent reading for students by cultivating various activities such as reading competiton, reading carnival and so on. Lastly, the researcher suggests educators to encourage independent reading and gain better religious awareness among students.
