This study aims to uncover the social and cultural determinants in the formation Omani youth' personality by identifying the dimensions of the:
1. Social determinants in the formation of personality.
2. Cultural determinants in the formation of personality.
The study relied on an analytical and descriptive approach, using a fivepoint Likert scale for data collection. The research questionnaire was administered to 491 students from various colleges at Sultan Qaboos University, approached through a non-probability sampling method. The study findings are as follows:
- Social determinants (family, educational institution, group of friends, modern communication means) contribute to the structure of the personality of the Omani youth. - The contribution of social determinants to the structure of the youth's personality is varies. The family ranked first in term of contribution to personality, followed by peer groups, the educational institution, and finally by modern communication means.
- Cultural determinants (Arabic language, Islamic religion and social values) constitute an important dimension in the structure of youth's personality. Here, the contribution of Islamic religion ranked first; Arabic language second and, finally social values.
- There are statistically significant differences between university students according to gender, specialization and social determinants in personality structure.
- There are statistically significant differences between university students according to the pattern of residence and social values in the structure of personality.
- There are no statistically significant differences between university students with respect to the cultural determinants (Arabic language and Islamic religion) of personality based on gender, academic specialization, or the pattern of residence (urban, rural, Bedouin). According to the above results, the study makes the following research and practical suggestions:
1. Conduct a study on the social values related to residence patterns and the impact of their change on the realities of Omani society.
2. Utilize modern communication means by designing electronic platforms concerned with Omani culture.
3. Making use of architectural gates of the governorates and main roads for displaying historical and cultural paintings reflecting the salient features of Omani personality.
