The current study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of the self- table strategy in developing reading comprehension skills in the basic grade seven.
To achieve this aim, the researcher prepared a list of comprehension skills that are appropriate for students in grade seven, a test for the reading comprehension and a guide for the proposed strategy. These were validated by a panel of judges consisting of a group of experts.
The sample of the study was divided into two groups, experimental and controlled. The experimental group included (30) students of who studied reading skill by using the self- table strategy. The controlled group included (30) students who had been taught reading skill by the usual way. Moreover, the reading comprehension test was applied immediately after teaching students.
The results has shown significant differences in the means of students marks in the test, in favor to the experimental group. These differences have occurred in respect to the way of teaching.
The researcher recommends to benefit from the self-scaling strategy in teaching Arabic language skills in different stages. It also recommends to train students in understanding reading texts depending on themselves.
