The purpose of this study was aimed at evaluating the various professional development programmes presented by the ministry of education for the educational supervisors in the Sultanate of Oman, which are related to type of the programmes, frequencies of their use, and its efficiency. Furthermore, the study was conducted to investigate programmes usefulness and advantage as well as their difficulties.
In order to achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher has made a pilot study and reviewed literature related to study subject. To collect data a questionnaire consisted of (71) items was developed. The reliability of the questionnaire and validity were obtained. The items of the questionnaires are classified in three domains which are frequencies of using programmes, and the beneficial results of the programmes from the supervisors' points of view.
Data were obtained from (247) educational supervisors (males and females) from six regions which are : Al-Batinah North, AL-Dhakhilya, Sharqiya North, Sharqiya South, Al-Dhahira South and Muscat providence.
Statistical means, standard errors, rating scales, T-test and analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used to analyze data.
Findings of the study:
1- The use of the short training courses, the workshops and the educational meetings are more frequently used with in the rating level of "average", while scholarships, study grant, visits exchange, educational conference attendance are less frequently used within rating level of "weak".
2-There are benefits of the developmental and functional programmes which are carry out and fulfillment by ministry of education with rating level of "average'in accordance to educational supervisors view of points.
3-The study revealed that there were a significant difference at (a =0.01) between educational supervisors responses means in the repetition range of programme effectiveness and that for its benefit.
4-The developmental and functional of the programmes are suffering from many obstacles with "high" level which were limited to the effectiveness of the developmental and functional programmes for the educational supervisors in the Sultanate of Oman
5-There were significant differences at (a =0.05) between statistical means for two dimensions of the study which are the frequencies of the programmes and the benefit of the programmes due to the variables of sex in favor of males.
6-There were significant differences at (a=0.05) between statistical means of responses according to the programmes' repetition domain due to variables of the job and the qualification in favor of the supervisors and those who have the highest level of qualification.
7-There were significant differences at (a =0.05) between the statistical means in the benefit of the programmes dimension due to the variables of the experience in favor of those who have a high level of
experience.
In the light of the above findings , some recommendations are proposed for the professional development programmes of the educational supervisors in the Sultanate of Oman. Mainly the importance of efficient planning for professional development programmes according to institutional and individual needs, and to balance between quality and quantity of programmes. Also to reduce the difficulties which prevent professional development efficiency.
