The purpose of this study was to know the effects of using Web Course Tools (WebCT) on the student's achievement and their motivation in education, information and communication technology course.
The sample consisted of (41) postgraduate students of curricula and teaching methods major in collage of education in SQU. The sample was distributed into two groups: The experimental group, taught using WebCT program, it was consisted of (21) students. The control group, which was taught by the regular method and it was consisted of (20) students.
An achievement test consists of ten items (seven true and false questions and three extend answer questions). A motivation scale modified to suit Oman's environment. In its final form, the scale consisted of fifty items.
The validity of the test was conducted through a panel of expert judges. Reliability for achievement test and motivation scale was calculated using the cronbach-alpha for internal consistency between items. The reliability coefficient for achievement test was 0.64 whereas it was 0.94 for motivation scale.
The achievement test results showed that there was no significant difference between experimental group and control group at (a=0.05). Likewise, the motivation scale results showed that there was no significant difference between experimental and control group at (a=0.05). The study also showed that there was no significant difference at (a=0.05) in achievement test specialty and grade variables in baccalaureate. On the other hand, the study found that there was significant difference at (a=0.05) in the achievement test for gender variable while the study found that there were no significant differences at (a=0.05) in the motivation scale for specialty, grade and gender in baccalaureate. The study results also showed no significant correlation at (a=0.05) between achievement and motivation for individual performance of the experimental and control groups in achievement test and motivation scale.
According to these results, some recommendations were proposed such: making training programs for teaching staff in all collages of SQU, encouraging faculty in collage of education in SQU to use WebCT to support teaching, development of communication skills and inventing new ideas. The study also recommended the necessity of conducting similar studies in collages of education, science and art in higher education.
